Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction

For current or recent teachers who hold a valid California teaching credential. If you’re looking to enter teaching for the first time, consider PLNU’s master’s in teaching program.

Overview

You don’t work in education because it’s easy — you do it because it matters. You want to be an educator who makes a difference in people’s lives. That’s what we want, too. If you’re a current teacher, PLNU's master's in curriculum and instruction is the program for you. We offer a fully online curriculum throughout the state of California.

You can choose between a master of arts (M.A.) or a master of science (M.S.) track with our program. The M.A. track is meant for teachers already in the field looking to advance their careers while simultaneously becoming better educators. Current educators seeking to continue their education and pursue a doctorate should choose the M.S. track.

M.A. vs M.S. Comparison

When you join PLNU’s master’s in curriculum and instruction, you’ll challenge yourself to become a more effective teacher or workplace trainer. You’ll be prepared to advance your career and live out your calling to the fullest by:

  • Stepping into a teaching/leadership role.
  • Becoming a curriculum expert.
  • Increasing your pay scale.

At PLNU, we’re here for the same reasons as you: We truly believe in the power of education, and we care deeply about individuals — including you — who are living out their call to teach.

Everyone you encounter here will share that goal with you, from your admissions counselor to your professors. Rest assured, PLNU’s School of Education will take a personal interest in you and care about your concerns, experience, beliefs, and goals.

Relevant Topics to Meet Real Needs

District partnerships ensure PLNU’s curriculum addresses current needs and topics facing educators. In addition to offering accredited programs grounded in research, PLNU equips you to integrate your beliefs, values, and goals with your teaching practice.

Customizable, Deep, and Achievable

Testimonials

"Empowered Professionals"
"Teaching by Example"

Empowered Professionals
"The faculty in the Master of Arts in Education program knew we were working professionals and had lives outside of the classroom. When my wife gave birth to our second child during one of my classes, the professor was really accommodating by giving me the next class’s work and helping me stay caught up. The professors and administrative staff also helped by building our confidence in our leadership capabilities. I can’t tell you how many times I walked away from conversations with PLNU staff or professors feeling so affirmed."
Luke Lundmark Education M.A.
Teaching by Example
"The way that PLNU professors teach is not by telling you how to teach, but by showing you how to teach using the very teaching methods they want you to embody,. Most of the teachers at PLNU try to be creative and inventive in how they provided us with the content, so that we would do the same when we were teachers."
McKayla Carpenter Teaching M.A.
Diverse Learning Community
"In many of my classes, I learned alongside people in many different programs: future counselors, future administrators, secondary teachers, elementary school teachers, and education specialists. I felt it was a huge benefit to learn in this community because these are the kinds of people who comprise school staffs."
Jacqueline Li Special Education M.A.
Commitment to Impact
"PLNU really does instill in their students that teaching is a calling as much as a job, that it’s more about taking care of these students and helping them have a life and achieve as much as they can achieve, that it’s a commitment they are making to impact lives."
Chris Reising San Diego County of Education
Professional Fellowship
"All professors care, but at PLNU, having that faith element to it, there is just an extra connection there that’s really helped me and I’m still really good friends with a lot of the people I was in the cohort with and we bounce ideas off of each other professionally."
Lorean Molina Special Education M.A.
