Dr. Kim Schaeffer has served in PLNU's Department of Psychology since 1989, as department chair from 1996 to 2001 and acting-chair during 2006. He completed his Ph.D. in biological psychology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and his Ph.D. equivalent in clinical psychology from Oklahoma State University (OSU). Prior to joining PLNU, Schaeffer completed his clinical psychology internship at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN. His other clinical experiences include treating patients at the OSU Psychological Services Center and the OSU Marriage and Family Counseling Services. Schaeffer was also a mental health consultant at the Job Corps in Guthrie, OK. His specializations include research design/statistics and positive psychology, especially as it relates to Christian beliefs. Schaeffer has also been the founding and current director of the Psychology Department Tennis Tournament sponsored by Psi Chi, the longest running tennis tournament of any Psychology Department and probably any other academic department in the world. His wife, Michelle, is from Cleveland, and they spend much of their spare time following the sports teams of San Diego, Cleveland, and Philadelphia.
