Susan DeCristofaro Rogers feels fortunate to be serving the ECLC as academic director. When she was a college student, the ECLC became an extremely influential aspect of her training. Later, both her children attended the ECLC. As a parent, Rogers feels the ECLC played a vital part in her children’s development emotionally, socially, cognitively, and physically. PLNU is truly blessed to have a laboratory school on campus. It is a classroom within a classroom.

Rogers also teaches early childhood courses for the Department of Sociology, Social Work and Family Sciences: Early Childhood Education, Administration in Early Childhood Education, and Development of Children with Special Needs. She has a B.A. in child development and a M.A. in teaching and learning. Rogers enjoys walking, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Jolene Kearns

Jolene Kearns has been teaching children of all ages in both public and private schools for the last 20 years. In addition to her background in early childhood education, Jolene holds a California State teaching credential and is a former transitional kindergarten teacher. She has also taught music to children in preschool through 8th grade for private schools in the Greater San Diego area. Jolene enjoys using her training in performing arts to infuse her early learning classrooms with unique and inspiring explorations in art, music and dramatic play. She feels very excited and blessed to join the community at Point Loma Nazarene University and understands what is like to be a busy parent since she is also raising 3 teenagers with her husband of almost 25 years.

Madeline Johnson

Madeline Johnson is very excited to continue her journey with the community at the Early Childhood Learning Center. Madeline was a student aide at the center for three years and fell in love with the philosophy and joy found in working alongside the children as they learn and grow. She received her B.A. at Point Loma in Child and Adolescent Development and plans to begin her Masters in Teaching starting in the Spring of 2022. When not at school, Madeline enjoys being outside, hiking or taking walks, or spending time with her friends and family. Madeline is so thankful for the community and growth that she has found in Point Loma, especially at the ECLC, and is looking forward to continuing to faithfully love and serve the Lord as she serves children and families at the Center. 

Faith Phillips

Transition Afternoon Teacher

Faith Phillips is a recent alumni of Point Loma Nazarene University, receiving her B.A. Childhood and Adolescent Development. During her time at Point Loma, she was a student aide at the Early Childhood Learning Center for three years. Currently, she is a part-time student and is working to obtain her Masters in Teaching at PLNU. Faith has formed her teaching philosophy around the knowledge that she has gained from the center. She is passionate about creating an inclusive environment and implementing growth-mindset in the classroom. Faith believes in empowering children and ensuring that they feel seen, known, and loved. Outside of the classroom, Faith enjoys going to the beach, trying new coffee shops, and antique shopping. She is looking forward to sharing the unconditional love of Christ with the children and families at the ECLC.
