Tomorrow’s Academy: Educating Students for a Dynamic Future
Tomorrow’s Academy is a forward-thinking strategic priority that aims to create a sustainable model for the students of tomorrow. It's a call to action that invites the entire PLNU community to actively shape and enhance our distinctive educational offerings and to transform the university into an agile and integrated body. We aim to be a university that is deeply connected and relevant in the marketplace and attuned to the evolving needs of our diverse student populations. A place where students are equipped with both the knowledge and skill sets needed for their future vocational callings.
To move forward, we must adopt a broadened view of our university that acknowledges the complexity of our institutional structure while recognizing the role each of us plays in its success and how our roles relate. This is informed by both internal and external communities, which have ramifications in shaping our curriculum and student life programs. This is realized in data-informed decisions, an enhanced program review process, embedded career readiness, visibility of programs in industry, a rich interdisciplinary environment, a whole student education, and intentional touch points that deepen an understanding and commitment to our Wesleyan-Holiness theological heritage.
In order to accomplish these objectives, it’s imperative to support faculty and staff in their professional growth, empowering them to develop and facilitate transformational learning experiences for our students. By embracing this priority, we can contribute to a university structure that maximizes program quality and efficiencies across curricular, co-curricular, and operational systems. Revisions in our academic structure, Student Life and Formation, and General Education will create interdisciplinary collaboration and integration opportunities, leading to a more cohesive and innovative environment.
This initiative also acknowledges Christian higher education's challenges today, including financial sustainability and the shifting student demographics that impact enrollment. However, working together can help the university navigate these challenges and create a more cohesive, attractive, and relevant educational experience. Our focus on integration, interdisciplinary thinking, and the development of each individual ensures that PLNU continues to prepare students to thrive in an increasingly complex world.
