Welcome Week, Fall
Get Ready for Welcome Week!
Welcome Week, PLNU's premier orientation for all new students, is anchored by intentionally curated experiences, where students will be propelled toward a deeper understanding of God, self, and others. The week will commence with family, support systems, and guests on move-in day, and conclude with our traditional integration of students alongside their new peers. It is our hope that this week gives you the time to learn more about our community in ways best suited for you to transition well and begin to provide you with the tools: spiritually, vocationally, intellectually and professionally to walk your unique path with success and thrive!
New student move-in is on Tuesday, August 27th. Families and guests will depart at the end of the second day of programming on Wednesday, August 28th, with students continuing their Welcome Week experience through September 1st.
Welcome Week will commence with meeting key people, getting your digital student ID, learning about the culture of PLNU, moving into your room, picking up your textbooks, and that’s just in the first two days! You are welcome to have two guests attend Tuesday and Wednesday of Welcome Week.

Frequently Asked Questions
When do I need to arrive?
Tuesday, August 27th. Your unique move-in time will be provided at the beginning of August.
What will Welcome Week cost?
The cost of Welcome Week is built into your tuition and fees.
What can I expect during Welcome Week?
General sessions targeted for all first year students (freshmen and transfers), peer-led small groups, local outings, acts of service, and instruction by PLNU faculty and staff. Once students move onto campus on Aug 27th, there will be programming throughout the rest of the week.
How does the check-in/move-in process work?
In early August, new students will be provided with their “check-in” specific instructions and move-in time. You are allowed to fill two vehicles (no trailers, U-Hauls, motorhomes/RV are allowed on campus). Any additional vehicles will need to be parked off-campus. It is imperative that you don’t arrive early. All students and their families who arrive earlier than the stated time on their form will be asked to wait off-campus until their assigned time.
Once on-campus, you will check-in at Nicholson Commons before heading to your residence hall. Student workers and staff will be ready to celebrate you, unload your vehicle(s), and carry everything into your room.
How many people can I bring with me?
Two guests are included with your Welcome Week registration for the first two days. All guests who will be joining you on campus must register in advance of the event.
Where will my guests stay?
Guests will not be allowed to stay on-campus nor will PLNU be providing accommodations for guests during Welcome Week. We would recommend that families check out our reduced rate partnership with Bartell Hotels in the San Diego area. Rates are based on availability and all appropriate taxes and hotel fees apply. To guarantee a special rate, please book early and ask for the "PLNU rate" at the time the reservation is made. In return, Bartell will donate a percentage of the total room cost to PLNU's university fund benefiting student scholarships. Book online and find additional information about PLNU's partnership with Bartell hotels.
When will I find out my housing and roommate for the fall?
Housing will be announced in early July.
How do I register for classes?
PLNU creates your first semester schedule before you arrive. Our faculty recommend specific courses based on your major choice, to ensure you are on track towards graduation. Later in the fall semester, you will meet with a faculty advisor to plan your own schedule for the following spring semester. If you have questions about your first semester schedule email records@pointloma.edu from your PLNU email address.
Is there anything I need to do in the summer leading up to Welcome Week?
Yes! Here are some important steps to take prior to Welcome Week:
- Check your PLNU email regularly for updates and key communication
- Register for Welcome Week Orientation through your Accepted Student Community portal
- Take the online Math Placement Test
- Complete the Title IX: Get Inclusive Training before June 15th
Check-In Day
To avoid congestion on move-in day and make the process as smooth as possible, each new student is assigned a time to check in inside Nicholson Commons. Following check-in, new students will move their belongings into their residential hall rooms. Your assigned check-in time will be available by the beginning of August in your Student Workday. You will receive a color-coded check-in ticket in the mail with an assigned time about two weeks prior to Welcome Week. This ticket will allow you access to campus on Tuesday, August 27.
Families and Guests
All guests must register to attend the family and guest portion of Welcome Week. Students are allowed to bring two guests at no charge. Guests are invited to join us for the check-in/move-in process on Tuesday, August 27, in addition to events on Wednesday, August 28, and should plan on departing no later than our Res Hall Open House on Tuesday evening.
Transfer Student Orientation
Welcome Week will include programming and information specifically for new transfer students. Transfer students who will be living on-campus are required to attend Welcome Week. Sessions you attend will address information pertinent to your needs as a transfer student.
