Bestselling novelist Kiersten White will visit Point Loma Nazarene University as part of the 2nd Annual M.A in Writing Visiting Writers Series on October 16, 2024.
Kiersten White is the #1 New York Times bestselling, Bram Stoker Award-winning, and critically acclaimed author of many books for readers of all ages, including the And I Darken trilogy, the Sinister Summer series, the Camelot Rising trilogy, Star Wars: Padawan, Hide, Mister Magic, and Lucy Undying. Her books have been published in over twenty territories, been Indie, Publisher’s Weekly, USA Today, and Sunday Times bestsellers, and her novel The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein was an NPR best book of the year pick. Other accolades include the Utah Book Award, the San Diego Book Award, a Rainbow List Top Ten pick, a YALSA Teen Top Ten pick, an Evergreen Book Award, a Florida Teen Reads winner, and spots on many other regional and national lists.
First gaining recognition for her young adult fiction and fantasy writing, White branched out to adult fiction with the 2022 novel Hide. The book, which tells the story of a young woman who enters into a high-stakes hide-and-seek competition turned deadly, became a national bestseller and is currently in development with Universal Television and Peacock.
In an interview with San Diego Magazine, White shares that she has become “a lot braver” in her writing:
“In the early days of my writing, I very much limited what I would engage with as far as topics, tones, and ideas. As I’ve become more self-assured, I’ve expanded the number of things I’m willing to engage with on the page and in the storytelling.”
White continues to expand her storytelling with her third adult fiction novel Lucy Undying, which is set to release on September 10, 2024. The gothic fantasy novel follows the story of Lucy Westenra, one of Dracula’s first victims, and her search for self-discovery and true love.
During her visit to PLNU, White will conduct a 3 p.m. craft lecture and writing workshop and a 7 p.m. evening reading and conversation/discussion with Dr. Breeann Kyte Kirby. The 3 p.m. lecture/workshop is free; all are welcome to observe the discussion. Book sales will be available thanks to La Playa Books. Cost for the evening event is $10 for general admission and $5 for PLNU staff, students, and faculty.
