SAN DIEGO, Calif. — March 26, 2025 — Point Loma Nazarene University is proud to announce that Dr. Holly Irwin has been appointed as Vice President for Mission and Calling, a new Cabinet-level position that reflects PLNU’s deep and ongoing commitment to its Wesleyan Christian identity.

Dr. Irwin will provide leadership to ensure that the university’s Christian mission and vocational calling are intentionally and meaningfully integrated throughout the institution – from academics and student life to strategy and community partnerships. In this role, she will serve as a key advocate and guide for ensuring that faith, learning, and purpose remain at the center of PLNU’s identity and vision.

"Having worked closely with Holly for many years, I trust her deeply and am grateful for her partnership in this new role, which aligns so closely with her own professional calling," said PLNU President Dr. Kerry Fulcher. "She brings with her deep institutional knowledge, strategic insight, a heart for our students, and a passion for mission-centered leadership."

Dr. Irwin has served in multiple leadership roles at PLNU, including faculty member, department chair, dean, and most recently, Vice Provost for Academic Administration. Her experience in both academic and spiritual leadership gives her a unique ability to bridge institutional priorities with the mission-rooted development of students, faculty, and staff.

A thoughtful mentor and strategic thinker, Dr. Irwin’s work exemplifies PLNU’s mission to prepare students for lives of purpose, grounded in their faith and vocational calling.
