SAN DIEGO, Calif. — March 7, 2025 — Following a thorough evaluation process and a season of intentional prayer and discernment, Point Loma Nazarene University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. G. James Daichendt as the university’s new Provost and Chief Academic Officer.
Dr. Daichendt brings over a decade of dedicated service and leadership within the PLNU community. He has served in a range of academic leadership roles, including Vice Provost, Dean of the Colleges, and Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities. Most recently, he has led the university as Interim Provost, where he has been a catalyst for fostering academic excellence, institutional transparency, and collaborative engagement across PLNU’s campuses.
"I have had the privilege of working alongside Jim for the past 10 years in a variety of roles, and I have seen firsthand his deep love for this community and his dedication to our Christian mission," said PLNU President Dr. Kerry Fulcher. "As we navigate the challenges and opportunities in higher education, Jim’s strategic vision and broad network of academic and professional connections will be invaluable in helping PLNU continue to thrive. I am deeply grateful for his willingness to step into this role."
During his interim tenure, Dr. Daichendt introduced new avenues for engagement through his “Provost’s Weekly Minute” communications and the “Lomacast” podcast, both of which have helped strengthen internal dialogue and foster a sense of community. His leadership of the Provost Council has encouraged meaningful collaboration among academic deans and faculty, while streamlining processes to better serve students.
Dr. Daichendt is also widely recognized for his academic scholarship and contributions to the arts. His commitment to rigorous inquiry, paired with a heart for mentoring and equipping others, exemplifies PLNU’s calling to serve as a Christ-centered learning community.
